"There's a huge amount of pride and ambition in Plymouth", says Shadow Chancellor
Anneliese Dodds visited Plymouth's businesses on Friday (16 April)
The Shadow Chancellor has told Greatest Hits Radio, she has no doubt Plymouth can bounce back from lockdown stronger.
Anneliese Dodds was speaking, during a visit to the city on Friday (16 April), where she met with local businesses.
She sat down with us at the new Brewdog pub that has recently opened at Plymouth's Barcode development at Bretonside.
She said:
"I've been talking this morning, to a number of those involved with the local economy, in they've been telling me about quite how hard it has been.
"We do need to be reopening our economy but we've got to do all we can to make sure we can keep it open.
"It's been very difficult for so many businesses but there's a huge amount of pride and ambition in Plymouth.
"There are so many opportunities within the marine economy, from building on the work of the university, and so many of the big employers here, but also the small employers too.
"I think it's really important that Plymouth is backed, its businesses are backed, and its council is backed, in driving towards that green economy, the high-tech economy of the future, with a particular focus on jobs for local people."
