Suspected 'mortar bomb' found near primary school in Plymouth

Police have been called after a suspected mortar bomb was found near a primary school in Plymouth.
Officers say the discovery was made at around 2.30pm on Wednesday (8th June) when someone was digging land.
A 100m cordon was put in place in the Peregrine Road area near to St Matthews School.
Police confirmed that children were moved to the other side of the building and a bomb disposal team were called.
A controlled explosion was then carried out.
A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall said: "We were called at around 2.30pm on Wednesday 8th June with a report that a digger had unearthed a suspected mortar – around three inches in size – at a car park in Peregrine Road, Plymouth.
"A 100-metre cordon was put in place and the Royal Navy bomb disposal team was called to the scene and carried out a controlled explosion at around 5.20pm."
Inrix Traffic and Travel said: "Brest Road Eastbound closed due to police incident between The Hospital and The Primary School.
"Closed on all approaches to the roundabout to get to the primary school."
