Strong winds and large waves batter Devon
The impact of Storm Pierrick has been felt across the South West
People are being encouraged to stay cautious after strong winds and large coastal waves battered Devon overnight.
A Met Office yellow weather warning was in force until 6.00am this morning due to Storm Pierrick, named by Meteofrance.
Videos online show large waves at Exmouth - the town's seafront flood gates were closed from 1.30pm yesterday due to a combined high tide and river surge.
Across the border in Cornwall, the harbour wall at Porthleven has been damaged due to large waves and some beach huts at Falmouth have been washed into the sea.
Emily Davidson is the owner of Castle Beach Café in Falmouth, who are missing three beach huts. Their seating shelter has also been completely smashed up, but the café itself is completely fine.
"We're going to clear up the picnic tables and all of the area, hopefully get some of the community down with brooms and shovels to help get the beach back onto the beach.
"The sea just came up and all of the beach huts seemed to be dragged out but some of them were pushed back in. Our little ice cream shed was sort of hanging off the edge of the wall and then was pushed back in by the waves."
There have been reports of power cuts overnight and a number of flood warnings and alerts remain in force.
