From this month, the power of hip hop is helping to build people's confidence, mental health and lives in Plymouth.

Street Factory are running a new 23-week programme aimed at reconnecting the community and helping individuals to 'build the best you'.

The project - Hip Hop Antidote - includes a range of activities: including Krav Maga, parkour, holistic workshops and hip hop theatre.

The daily sessions also aim to provide educational and employment opportunities.

Co-founder of Street Factory, Toby Gorniak, tells us that Hip Hop Antidote is a safe space to find yourself:

"This programme has been designed for people who are employed and unemployed; people who are just struggling at this moment in time, who are struggling with connecting with the community and just getting out the house again.

"It's also for people who are maybe just thinking about employment and want to get back to work.

"This is just about helping people to get back on their feet and helping people to connect back with the community."

The project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.

Co-founder of Street Factory, Jo Gorniak, adds: "With Street Factory, we're just like one big family, so it's really welcoming.

"Some people just want to come in and have a chat with us and they don't actually want to get involved in some activities that fast. Sometimes they don't even want to talk for a couple of weeks and that's fine.

"It's about having a safe space to belong and find yourself.

"Like Toby says, you'll build a better life with us, you'll build the life that you've always wanted and you'll be where you want to be."
