RNLI lifeboat and volunteer crews have been called out to an urgent medical incident over the weekend.

It happened on Saturday afternoon near Dawlish - with the multi agency rescue involving the air ambulance and coastguard units.

On social media, the team have offered their thoughts and sincere condolences to the family and friends of the individual involved.

They said: "Both Exmouth RNLI Lifeboats and volunteer crews launched to an urgent medical incident.

"At 14.09 on Saturday afternoon, H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of both lifeboats to assist Devon Air Ambulance, SWAST, Dawlish and Torbay Coastguard Rescue units with a multi-agency medical incident near Dawlish.

"The Exmouth RNLI ILB D-805 George Bearman II launched at 14.17, followed shortly after by the Exmouth All Weather Lifeboat, R&J Welburn.

"Our volunteer crews arrived on scene shortly after launching and provided additional support to the on-scene HEMS Doctor & Paramedic, who had been dropped to the scene by the Air Ambulance helicopter, and local Coastguard Rescue colleagues.

"Our volunteer crews remained on scene until they were stood down by H.M Coastguard at around 16.00. They then returned to station to prepare our lifeboats for their next service.

"Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of the individual involved in the incident."
