"Pregnancy is difficult enough and getting COVID would make it much more difficult"
Ailie - who is seven and a half months pregnant - is encouraging others to get their COVID jab
A pregnant woman from the South Hams is encouraging others to get their COVID jab.
Ailie - who is due to give birth to a girl in September - says she is glad she had hers, adding that she feels more confident now that more advice surround the vaccine has been issued.
The GP was offered the jab early because of her job, but did not realise she was pregnant at the time:
"I was due to get my second jab quite early on. I did decide to wait a little bit to get a bit more information. At the time the Government was advising only to vaccinate pregnant women if they were at high risk, which I didn't feel like I was.
"Back in April the Government guidance changed for pregnant women. They then started advising every pregnant women to get vaccinated and that was on the basis of studies and data that was coming out about the vaccination and that made me feel a lot more confident."
She says she felt fine after having it and hopes it will make it easier when the baby has arrived, so she can spend more time with elderly relatives without worrying about passing it on.
You can find out more information about the COVID vaccine and pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility on the NHS website.
University Hospitals Plymouth say: "It's important to have both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to protect you and your unborn baby."
