Tavistock Police released this statement regarding the incident on their Facebook page:
"Thanks to residents living in and around Fernworthy area of Dartmoor, a rave which had set up in the area was able to be closed down before it grew any larger.
"We received a call around 7.30am and were able to get units to the scene where over 100 people were in attendance and around 60 vehicles.
"The music was switched off and most of those present were leaving the area by mid morning. Some of those present were being checked by officers to ensure they were fit to continue on their journey with others sleeping off excesses of the previous evening.
"One driver was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive.
"The prompt action of locals has stopped this incident escalating further and we would ask residents living around West Devon to call us if they see or hear any large groups gathering over the summer months.
"Thank you West Devon."
