Police issue 16 party-goers with £800 fines in Plymouth

Police in Plymouth had a busy night on Friday.
Inspector Paul Laity, Critical Incident Manager for the Plymouth B Section Response team, said they had to deal with 11 COVID logs.
He said it was mainly for private house parties, one of which resulted in 16 people landing themselves with £800 fines.
Two people were also arrested for drug and weapon offences.
According to Plympton Police, one of the party goers thought it was okay because they have "regular COVID checks through their work which have all been negative to date".
According to the latest national lockdown guidance, you must not leave or be outside of your home except where you have a ‘reasonable excuse’.
The police can take action against you if you meet in larger groups. This includes breaking up illegal gatherings and issuing fines (fixed penalty notices).
You can be given a Fixed Penalty Notice of £200 for the first offence, doubling for further offences up to a maximum of £6,400. If you hold, or are involved in holding, an illegal gathering of over 30 people, the police can issue fines of £10,000.
