Police in Plymouth have fined a family for breaching COVID rules.

A couple took their five children to B&Q to pick up some 'essential' wood for a garden project.

But they failed to say they had also travelled with their neighbours in the same car - cramming a total of nine people inside.

PC Adam Bell, from the Plymouth B Section Response Team, said the driver was also dealt with for a number of other offences:

"Another day, another COVID-19 fine issued. This time, a couple decided to take their five children to B&Q to pick up some ‘essential’ wood for a garden project. What they failed to mention was that they had travelled with their neighbours in the same car.

"Four adults and five children all crammed into a car - not to mention the timber wedged above their heads. Needless to say the driver was dealt with separately for numerous traffic offences such as driving otherwise in accordance with a DL, no insurance and causing danger to others."

Under current lockdown rules, you must not leave or be outside of your home except where necessary.

You are also not allowed to meet socially with anyone you do not live with or are not in a support bubble with (if you are legally permitted to form one) - unless for a permitted reason.

People must stay 2 metres apart from anyone not in their household or support bubble.
