The Lord Mayor of Plymouth is hosting a virtual Christmas Carol Concert this year for everyone to enjoy from home.

The concert is being pre-recorded at the Minster Church of St Andrew and will be streamed online this Friday evening.

It will all be shown on the Council's Facebook and YouTube pages, for people to watch and sing along to from home.

Led by Reverend Joe Dent, Rector at St Andrew's, the concert will include performances from the church choir and Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Marine Academy Primary School Choir and the Council's staff choir, the 'Sound Council'.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Chris Mavin will give a welcome and Christmas message and there will be readings from the Lady Mayoress, Councillor Sue Dann; HH Judge William Taylor, Recorder of Plymouth; Kate Smith from the Memory Matters charity; Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Darren Winter and John Bowden, the church's Organist Emeritus.

The Lord Mayor said:

"2020 has been a pretty challenging year for us all and I know many will be hoping to spend some precious time with at least some of their loved ones this Christmas.

"I wanted to share this year's Carol Concert with everyone so they can join together for a bit of fun and festive joy - and hopefully sing along to their favourite carols from the comfort of their sofas!"

The Christmas Carol Concert will be streamed on the Council's Facebook and YouTube pages from 7pm on Friday 18 December. Visit www.facebook.com/plymouthcitycouncil or www.youtube.com/plymouthcitycouncil.
