Plymouth's G7 protest site has been moved
It's now taking place at Central Park instead of The Hoe
Plymouth City Council and Devon and Cornwall Police have moved the location of the Plymouth G7 protest from the Hoe to Central Park.
It follows calls from Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Luke Pollard, who asked for a rethink in the strategy after hearing complaints from local residents and traders.
Mr Pollard said:
"The Hoe was the wrong location for the Police to choose for the G7 protests.
"I support the right of people to peacefully demonstrate which is why I so strongly oppose the Government's Police Bill that would restrict protest. But where there is a risk of violence, every effort should be taken to keep local people, protestors and the police safe.
"I hope the City Council and the police now support the communities around Central Park to make sure any protests are safe and peaceful."
