10 Plymouth breast cancer 'thrivers' are coming together to raise money for the charity that helped them through their diagnoses.
Michelle Hull, Gill Hardy, Hellen Baker, Marie Bryan, Kathryn Short, Catherine Loft, Sally Thompson, Fiona Osmaston, Denise Holgate and Wendy Deane were all treated at the Primrose breast care centre at Derriford Hospital; and decided they wanted to give back to the service that "saved their lives".
Back in 2018, they hosted a 'Dare 2 Bare' charity ball which raised £13,000 for the Primrose Foundation. The following year they 'dared to Burlesque', where they raised a further £10,000.
Having raised a collective total of £23,000 for the charity so far, they're returning to do it all again this weekend.
The group are hosting 'Dare 2 Dance' charity ball at The Duke of Cornwall this Saturday (8 October).
In a post on the Primrose Foundation's website they said: "We wanted to give something back to Primrose as it’s here that all our journeys started and most likely saved our lives too.
"Having previously worked with The Primrose Foundation we know that whatever money we raise is put right back into our local breast care services which is really important to us all."
Their fundraising efforts helped to create a quiet room at the Primrose centre. It also helped to fund a part-time Clinical Psychologist and a training bursary for the plastic reconstructive team.
The post continued: "It was always important to all of us that we were kept engaged and consulted on how the funds we raised were spent, therefore we want to continue our fundraising support so that The Primrose Foundation can continue to do all the amazing work they do."
The ladies are hoping to raise £10,000 this time around. So far they have collected just over £4,000 on their JustGiving page.
Items will be auctioned off at the charity ball on Saturday to boost their funds. This includes a double bed divan and mattress worth over £5,000 - kindly donated by Vi-Spring.
People are also able to make offline bids before the night. Those wishing to do so can email michellehull2504@gmail.com.
The event is being supported by The Hyde Park, Howard & Over Solicitors, Godfrey, Short & Squire Estate Agents, Print Copy Scan and Rockin Bikes.
