Plymouth Argyle: Schumacher says it's an 'unbelievable honour' to take on new manager role
The 37-year-old speaks about his excitement, as he takes over from Ryan Lowe
"Consistency is key" is the message from the new Plymouth Argyle boss.
Steven Schumacher, who has stepped-up from being Assistant Manager, said it’s vital he builds a "club and a philosophy" at Argyle.
The 37-year-old also insisted he won’t make drastic changes, only "little tweaks here and there".
The appointment comes as welcome news for many Plymouth supporters, who were reluctant to see ex-boss Ryan Lowe depart for Preston North End.
The fanbase will now want to see the club continue in the same vein of form as the first few months of the season.
Plymouth currently sit in sixth place and the new gaffer will want to secure a League One play-off finish, or automatic promotion to the Championship.
Approaching nearly three years at the club, Schumacher knows the feeling of promotion with Argyle all too well.
"It's the best job in Plymouth."
The new boss also spoke of his pride at landing the role.
"It's an unbelievable honour and a privilege to be asked.
"Somebody said to me in the press last week at MK Dons: 'it's the best job in Plymouth' … right now I feel as though I can agree with that.
"I know how important it is to the people down here that they have an Argyle team that they can be proud of. I'm loving it," he said.
Before coaching, Schumacher enjoyed an impressive career in the football league, playing as a midfielder and making 425 appearances for various clubs.
He’s most known for his time at Bradford City and Bury, making a combined total of 231 appearances and scoring 36 goals.
It’s clear Schumacher doesn’t lack experience in the game. Now he will simply hope that all his experiences being the Number Two will stand him in good stead as manager.
The Pilgrims welcome Charlton Athletic to Home Park on Saturday, in Schumacher’s first home game at the helm.
The gaffer will be looking to get a win – and ignite his managerial reign at the club.
