Devon and Cornwall Police have urged drivers to buy petrol sensibly, insisting there is NO shortage of fuel in our region.

It comes after long queues were reported at forecourts from Penzance to Plymouth.

The force has tweeted to warn that could have an impact on critical and emergency services.

It comes as the government announces extra support to ease the risk of a UK-wide shortage of HGV drivers and pressures on supply chains.

10,000 foreign HGV drivers and poultry workers will be allowed into the UK for three months.

Up to 4,000 people here will be trained as truckers too.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Communities in Devon and Cornwall are being reminded that there is no fuel shortage in either county - and there is no need to panic buy.

"Concerns about a shortage of fuel have led to an increase in the number of motorists visiting filling stations.

"The current situation will not impact on the service Devon and Cornwall Police provides to our communities.

"We are calling for the public to behave sensibly and not panic buy.

"This has caused queues and congestion on some roads, which can cause delays to other motorists and have an impact on critical and emergency services".
