Pet oxygen masks given to dogs after they started a house fire
It comes as crews remain at the scene of a separate suspicious fire this morning
A pair of dogs have started a house fire in Somerset, which luckily was spotted by a neighbour who called emergency services.
Yeovil's White Watch have given an update following the incident on Monday, saying: "a couple of doggies who were home alone, jumped up in the kitchen to have a sneaky smell of some delicious, freshly baked cupcakes - when they inadvertently turned the gas hob on.
"Unbeknown to our canine friends, a small but progressive fire was starting to build due to a tea towel on the hob, filling their home with thick smoke.
"Thankfully the owners had working smoke alarms and although only the dogs were in the property, the alarms were heard by a vigilant neighbour who confirmed there was a fire and immediately called 999.
"Crews arrived within five minutes, donned breathing apparatus and forced entry into the property, located the dogs using a thermal imaging camera and rescued them to a place of safety.
"Pet oxygen masks, provided by the Smokey Paws Charity for the fire service were used to administer oxygen and thankfully these dogs were able to be reunited safely to their worried owner.
"The fire was dealt with and the property ventilated using a Positive Pressure Ventilation fan. "
Crews added: "Our animal friends can be responsible for accidents involving fire, prevent them from getting into areas or close proximity where fire can become a risk to your home."
It comes as investigations continue this morning after a suspicious fire in Chard. An outbuilding caught alight to the rear of Henson Park just after 9pm last night.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be deliberate and police are now investigating.
