An animal charity based in Barnstaple is set to close its doors after 23 years.

North Devon Animal Ambulance (NDAA) say it's due to the age and ill-health of the trustees, as well as financial difficulties.

The voluntary organisation was founded in 2002 and since then they have rescued, cared for, rehabilitated and rehomed many domestic and wild animals and birds.

In a statement on social media, NDAA said that they will shut at the end of August:

"It is with very heavy hearts that the trustees have made the very, very difficult decision that the charity should close.

"This is due to the age and ill-health of the trustees and the very difficult financial situation we find ourselves in.

"High veterinary costs and ever-increasing running costs mean we must close our doors whilst we are still able to meet our financial liabilities and comply with Charity Commission regulations.

"After 23 years of loyalty serving the North Devon community, Diana and the trustees will close our doors on Saturday 31st August 2024.

"We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over this time and we wish you all, and the animals, good health."
