New Lord Mayor of Plymouth announced
Plympton councillor Terri Beer will take over from Chris Mavin in May
Plympton councillor Terri Beer has been confirmed as the next Lord Mayor of Plymouth.
Her nomination was approved unanimously at a meeting of the city council on Monday afternoon.
The Conservative was first elected to the city council for Plympton Erle in May 2007 and was Deputy Lord Mayor in 2019/20.
CllrCllr Beer said she was looking forward to the year and would be promoting the interests of children and young people, as well as the wider community and voluntary sector.
The councillor was born and raised in Plympton St Maurice and has lived in Plymouth all her life. After gaining a management qualification at City College, she worked for Victim Support at Plymouth Crown Court.
She specialised in supporting families and victims of crime and until recently worked with the Devon and Cornwall Police witness care unit, giving guidance and support to victims and witnesses required to give evidence in court.
Councillor Beer will take over as Lord Mayor from Councillor Chris Mavin in May, and will be accompanied on official duties by husband Colin.
