The National Marine Aquarium is one of many attractions and indoor facilities that have been allowed to reopen to the public, following this latest lockdown.

On 17 May, indoor hospitality and visitor attractions could reopen in line with the Government’s roadmap.

Britain’s largest aquarium, in Plymouth, is no exception, but visitor numbers are limited to 1,000 a day.

Restrictions will remain in place, including the rule that visitors must wear face coverings and observe social distancing.

Visitors also need to book in advance online.

Whilst the attraction has been closed for around nine of the 14 months since the start of the pandemic, the National Marine Aquarium has allowed people to watch its free live videos and education sessions on its social media channels.

Roger Maslin, CEO of the Aquarium, said: "We’ve lost over £2.2million worth of income, so it’s been a challenge to find our way through.

"To have people and to hear the sound of cheery voices, it’s great!"
