Man who died in fishing boat incident was 50 and from the Torpoint area

It has been confirmed that a man who died on a fishing boat off the Cornish coast was 50 years old and from the Torpoint area.

Devon and Cornwall Police have released an update following the incident.

It happened around 50 miles off the coastline just before 8am on Saturday morning (6 February).

A second crew member was taken to Treliske with minor injuries and was later discharged.

Officers say the families of those involved have been.

An investigation is now being carried out by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

"Police were notified by HM Coastguard of an incident on board a fishing vessel some 50 miles off the Cornish coast at around 7.50am on Saturday 6th February.

"The incident resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man from the Torpoint area.

"A second male crew member was taken to hospital in Treliske with minor injuries and was later discharged.

"The families of those involved have been informed.

"The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

"Police enquires, assisted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), are continuing on behalf of the coroner."
