Man dies in Ivybridge after rescuing child from River Erme

Police were called to the town on Tuesday evening, but the man was confirmed dead

A man has died Ivybridge after rescuing a child from the River Erme.

Police were called to the town at around 7.10pm yesterday evening (15 June) with a report of concern for a man near Station Road.

A child had gotten into difficulty and the 30-year went into to help them.

He was declared dead at the scene and his next-of-kin are aware.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
