Man dies following serious crash in Plymouth

A serious crash in Plymouth has claimed a life.

A 51-year-old old man has died in hospital, following the collision on Cobourg Street last Thursday (8 July).

It involved a car and a motorcyle, and the road was closed for several hours while emergency services attended the scene.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection to the incident and remains under investigation.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"At around 10.15am on Thursday 8 July 2021 emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on Cobourg Street, Plymouth. The collision involved a car and a motorcycle.

"The motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man from Plymouth, was taken to Derriford Hospital with injuries. Police have since been informed that he died in hospital on Sunday 11 July.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

"A 38-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested in connection to the incident and remains under investigation pending further enquiries.

"Specially trained police officers attended the scene from the Alliance Roads Policing Team and the Serious Collisions Investigation Team.

"The road was closed in total for seven hours whilst emergency services were in attendance at the scene."
