Man dies following house fire in Plymouth

Another man was rescued from the scene - it is believed the fire was started accidentally

One man has died after an accidental house fire in Plymouth.

It happened North Prospect yesterday (9 February) and another man was rescued by the public and a neighbour.

Police say there is nothing indicating that the fire was started deliberately or by an electrical fault.

A spokesperson from the force said:

"On Sunday 7th February 2021 police were alerted by the Devon Fire and Rescue Service to a fire in Briardale Road, North Prospect, Plymouth.

"The fire and rescue service were met with a significant house fire upon their arrival. One male at the address was rescued by passers by and a neighbour, but another male was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Police are treating this as an accidental fire, and there is nothing to indicate the fire was started deliberately or by an electrical fault."
