Police have arrested a man in Plymouth in connection with the violent protests in Bristol.

He is now in custody for suspected offences of arson, violent disorder, criminal damage and assaulting police.

Local police located him on the Barbican yesterday (March 31) and transported him back up to Bristol for questioning.

PC Ottley - the Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Plymouth City Centre and Waterfront - replied to the team, saying: "Individuals like that aren’t welcome on my patch. Well done guys."

More protests are planned across the country this weekend, including in Plymouth.

Groups are set to gather at Charles Cross Police Station on Saturday to oppose the controversial Police and Crime Bill.

Recent protests in Bristol have turned into riots, although the latest one replaced violence and hate with nuance and debate.

It was the fourth in nine days, that saw crowds march through the city centre followed by a sit down protest on Bridewell Street.

The first protest ended with several police vehicles set alight and 40 officers assaulted.
