Campaigners say it's time to invest in Teignmouth Hospital, after plans to replace it with a smaller GP-led health centre feel through.

Today county councillors on Devon's health scrutiny committee met to discuss concerns over the future of the town's Channel View Medical Practice which was due to move into the new GP centre.

The plans for a new centre were halted in July with health bosses blaming spiralling costs since plans were first published in 2020 - from £8 million to £19 million - with the NHS also partly blaming opposition from campaigners for delays which pushed up costs.

The NHS report for Devon County Council warns 'a solution is needed as the lease on one of Channel View’s sites – in the Den Crescent – ends on 31 March 2025'.

Bosses say they hope to give an update on progress after next month.

Teignmouth Hospital's League Of Friends is planning to mark the 70th anniversary of the Hospital later this week (26th September) and, next year. the centenary of the site
