Home Park transformed into food distribution centre for Christmas
It's following a Crowdfunding campaign to give 10,000 Plymothians a Christmas meal this December
The concourse of the Lyndhurst Road stand at Home Park has been transformed into a temporary food distribution site to ensure that 10,000 Plymothians receive a Christmas dinner this year.
A Crowdfunded campaign, led by The Box, smashed its ÂŁ25,000 funding target, ensuring funding for 2,500 Christmas food parcels to be delivered to families in the city this festive period.
The project, delivered by over 20 volunteers from The Box, Fosters Events, and Plymouth Community Homes, got in touch with the club when their initial plans for a base of operations fell through at late notice – and club staff were swift to offer assistance.
Nat Tallents, project lead and executive chef at The Box Kitchen & Bar, said:
"After months of organising and planning it was hard to find a venue that had the space and access we needed, especially just before Christmas.
"All the team at Argyle were super helpful from the first conversation and we are so happy with the location. This project means a lot to me and The Box, so it brings us so much joy to be finally at the packing and delivery stages of the project!"
Argyle’s head of facilities and support services, John Spreadbridge, said:
"We were delighted to offer up part of our stadium for such a worthy cause.
"We are all proud of the community work that goes on in our city, and, in line with the club’s values, we felt it was the right thing to offer up our facilities to ensure that families are fed this Christmas.
"I am also grateful to our colleagues at Security Management South West, who offered up their services free of charge to ensure that the volunteers are able to prepare the parcels in a secure environment."
