Plymouth jet skier who broke local speed limits handed hefty fine
It's one of the biggest penalties to be handed to an offender here
A Plymouth man has been ordered to pay nearly £2,000 for breaching port regulations.
Plymouth Magistrates Court have handed down the fine after he was caught breaking the local speed limits on his personal watercraft.
The penalty, totalling at £1,934, is one of the biggest to be handed to an offender in the city based on similar speeding offences within the Port of Plymouth.
Evidence provided at the hearing came from witness statements, as well as CCTV which tracked the individual.
Captain Richard Allan, Harbour Master said: “We are really pleased with the result in court today.
"Whilst we welcome responsible personal watercraft users this individual continued to flout the speed limit here in the Port, and showed no regards for the safety of himself and other Port users.
"Exceeding speeds of forty knots in both an eight and four knot area is irresponsible and highly dangerous.
"Behaviour such as this is not welcome in the Port and as we have seen today prosecution can result in considerable penalties.”
