Former Devon and Cornwall police trainee faces child sex offence charges

A former Devon and Cornwall Police student officer has appeared in court today (Tuesday 1 November) accused of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Jason Hicks, aged 30, of Bishopsteignton, has appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court.

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address, and didn't enter a plea.

The allegations include:

  • Engaging in sexual communication with a child between March and April 2021
  • Causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity between March and April 2021
  • Four counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with children between December 2021 and January 2022
  • Four counts of attempting to cause/incite children to engage in sexual activity between December 2021 and January 2022

Hicks was in training as a student police officer at the time of the alleged offences. He is no longer an employee of Devon and Cornwall Police.

He has been released on unconditional bail and ordered to appear at Exeter Crown Court on the 2nd of December.
