The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for rain across parts of Wales and the whole of the South West of England tomorrow.

They say it will be in force from 9pm tomorrow night until 5pm on Thursday, thanks to 'persistent heavy rain' set to come in over the region over the next 24 hours.

This means more localised flooding is likely - which adds to the many Government issued warnings over the past few weeks which has already seen some disruption to travel plans.

We're being urged to take extra time and care when using public transport, and are being reminded that power outages could happen in some places.

The Met Office say:

  • We could see some flooding to some homes and businesses across the region
  • Public transport services could take longer
  • Journey times might be longer in the car because of spray and flooding
  • Power supply interruption is 'possible'

What the warnings mean

The Met Office run on a traffic light system of weather alerts, with 'yellow' being the least serious, and 'red' being the most serious.

A yellow weather warning is an alert by the Met Office, to say that a period of bad weather is likely to happen which could cause some disruption = such as localised flooding, or small power outages. They say, "It is important to read the content of yellow warnings to determine which weather situation is being covered by the warning."

An amber weather warning as an alert for more disruptive weather events, with an 'increased likelihood' they will happen. They say, "This means there is the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property."

A red weather warning represents dangerous weather is coming and it is time for the public to 'take action' to keep safe of the severe weather event. They say, "This means there is the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property."
