Some roads have been left impassable as a result, with drivers urged to take care when travelling.
Today's forecast for the South West from the Exeter-based Met Office says:
"A murky start to the day with coastal fog and low cloud. This lifting and breaking during the afternoon to give some bright spells, especially in the southeast. A few showers around, but mostly dry. Mild. Maximum temperature 15 °C."
For tonight it says:
"Cloudy but dry during the evening, with some coastal mist lingering on for some, with hill fog too. A further band of rain arrives in the early hours of Monday. Minimum temperature 8 °C."
