The first patient to get his COVID-19 vaccine in Devon and Cornwall has returned to say a personal thank you to the NHS.

Dennis Lyne received his jab at Derriford Centre for Health and Wellbeing hub at the beginning of December last year.

The centre has now officially closed its doors after administering 100,000 vaccinations.

89-year-old Dennis joined a small celebration for staff, vaccinators and volunteers at the hub, where he thanked everyone for their work during the pandemic:

"I'm going to say a big thank you to key workers, volunteers, for showing your support towards the NHS through this coronavirus pandemic.

"All NHS staff and supporting staff, putting yourself forward at risk to save others; one time I thought you were angels - you are our heroes."

Teams at University Hospitals Plymouth say the achievement of 100,000 vaccinations would not have been possible without the "dedication of the vaccinators and volunteers and the behind-the-scenes support" provided by both the NHS Trust and Livewell Southwest.

Those still in need of a first or second COVID-19 vaccine can attend Home Park Mass Vaccination site with walk-in sessions offered throughout the week.
