The British Firework Championships return to Plymouth tonight.

Six teams will compete over this evening and tomorrow - with 100,000 people watching in person from places like on the Hoe and more via an internet livestream broadcast around the world.

Councillor Sally Haydon is one of the judges this year and says it’s always very competitive as the winning team will likely get lots of knock-on business, as well as prestige.

She added: "It's a great honour to be able to host the firework competition here in the city. It's one of the largest free events in the South West.

"It is a very serious competition, obviously everybody wants to be a winner don't they."

Councillor Haydon added that she'll be judging aspects like height, colour, noise and variety in each of the six free-to-watch displays, over the two nights.
