Fire suspected of being started deliberately

A man's been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire in Exeter last night

A 23-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire in Queen Street last night.

Emergency services were called just after 6pm.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Emergency services attended the scene where road closures were put in place and the fire was extinguished.

"The cause of the fire is currently being treated as deliberate and enquiries remain ongoing.

"A 23-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in police custody at this time."

Overnight Devon & Somerset fire service confirmed: "One male suffered with slight burns to his hands and an ambulance attended to see to the casualty."

The spokesperson added: "The flat sustained approximately 50% fire damage and 50% damaged by smoke."
