The family of a young man who died following a crash on the A38 in Plymouth have paid a heartfelt tribute.

Officers were called at 2.15pm last Tuesday (26th October) after the collision involving a blue Mazda MX5 and a stationary Scania lorry in a layby, northbound just before Manadon.

Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team attended the scene along with South West Ambulance Service and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Sadly the driver of the car, 22-year-old Jacob Burnitt, died at the scene.

Jacob's family said: “Jacob was a much loved son, brother, and friend who grew up in Plympton and lived in Saint Budeaux.

“Jacob was a wonderful person who brought so much joy to our lives. He was always kind, always generous and the life of every party. He always knew how to make you smile. He lit up every room he was in, full of laughter, wit and mischief.

“We could not be prouder of him. He will be forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

“As a family we ask for privacy and empathy as we process this devastating loss."

The carriageway was closed for around seven hours following the crash for a forensic examination of the scene and the recovery of the vehicles.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They would also like to hear from anyone with relevant dash cam footage.
