Driver suffers life-threatening injuries following a serious crash on M5 at Exeter
Two cars collided just before junction 31 late on Sunday night, closing the road for several hours
Police have confirmed a driver has suffered life-threatening injuries after a serious crash on the M5 in Devon.
Two cars collided just before junction 31 at Exeter late on Sunday night, closing the road for several hours.
The casualty was rushed to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Another driver escaped with minor injuries.
It happened on the southbound carriageway just after 9.15pm and anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage is being urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police.
In a statement, the force said: "At approximately 2117 Hrs on Sunday 12th December 2021 a two-vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the South bound carriageway of the M5 just prior to junction31.
"The collision involved a BMW 1 Series and a Vauxhall Corsa.
"As a result of the collision, the driver of the Vauxhall has sustained life threatening injuries. The BMW driver sustained minor injuries.
"The driver of the Vauxhall was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.
"Officers from the Alliance Firearms Team as well as Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended the scene.
"Once a forensic investigation had been conducted the road was re-opened
"Any persons who witnessed the collision or have information regarding it – in particular any dashcam footage - are asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101, quoting log number 875 of the 12th December 2021.
"Police would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we dealt with the collision".
