The RNLI's issued a warning after having to rescue Devon water sports enthusiasts during the strong winds and storm conditions on Sunday.

The Exmouth RNLI lifeboat launched just after 6pm to help two wing surfers in trouble on the River Exe.

A spokesperson for the service said afterwards: "They were quickly able to make contact with both casualties and bring them into the safety of the lifeboat.

"Luckily both were unharmed and our volunteers safely returned them to shore. Satisfied that no one else was at risk the crew were then stood down by H.M Coastguard and returned to the lifeboat station at 18.50.

"At Exmouth RNLI we are huge supporters of those who chose to make the most of our beautiful river and local coastline areas, however it is very important that those choosing to use these waters have appropriate experience and equipment to cope with the prevailing conditions."
