Torbay's MP is answering questions about the UK's response to the Ukraine crisis

Torbay MP and immigration minister Kevin Foster is today answering questions about the response to the invasion of Ukraine.
The Tory MP is appearing before the Home Affairs Committee, which is looking at the ways refugees are being supported and allowed into the UK.
He is being asked about things like the 49-page document applicants must complete, stressing that 'no one will have to answer 49 pages' as that includes sections people only fill in if they tick 'yes' to certain sections.
Ahead of the meeting, a spokesperson for the commitee said: "It is estimated that up to 2.5 million people have been displaced from their homes due to Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"At present, the UK is requiring Ukraine nationals to obtain a visa before being admitted to the UK and this must be obtained before travel. The Ukraine Family Scheme has been established to offer a route to family members of British nationals and those with settled status. Â
"The session will examine the basis for the UK’s current approach, requiring visas for those fleeing Ukraine, and criticism from legal professionals about the practical operation of the Ukraine Family Scheme.
"It will investigate what work is being done to remove the practical barriers facing those attempting to come to the UK. The Committee will also look at what funding and support structures are in place to support Ukrainian refugees once they come to the UK. "
