Devon's Michelin Star restaurants revealed
The prestigious guide has named the best eateries in the county
Devon's four Michelin restaurants have kept their stars in this year's list - which was announced today.
The prestigious ratings are given out once a year, based on outstanding cooking - as well as the quality of ingredients, the mastery of techniques, and consistency over time and across the menu.
Elephant in Torquay, Lympstone Manor, Masons Arms in Knowstone and Thomas Carr 1873 in Ilfracombe have all retained one star each.
There was praise for Elephant's chef Simon Hulstone's 'interesting dishes' using 'the season's top produce', while the Masons Arms food was described as 'more sophisticated than you'd expect to find in a pub' with 'refined cooking' and an experienced chef.
Lympstone Manor was praised for 'smooth, warm and friendly' service, and sophisticated cooking, and Thomas Carr was described as 'a skilful and experienced chef who understands his guests and the area well'.
Looking across the UK restaurant scene, there are 19 new one star places, 5 new restaurants with 2 stars, and one restaurant in Cumbria has been awarded the rare accolade of a 3rd Michelin star.
