Devon firefighters praised for their efforts during pandemic

The local fire service is highlighting the success of staff and volunteers who have been supporting paramedics

Firefighters in Devon have responded to nearly 5,000 incidents while working with South Western Ambulance Service.

The joint partnership has been ongoing for over a year now, with staff and volunteers being praised for their efforts.

During this time, they have:

  • Spent over 1,200 hours supporting community testing units in Devon
  • Carried out PPE face fitting for 191 NHS frontline staff
  • Responded to 4,826 incidents during 1,127 shifts for the Ambulance Service
  • Helped to set up Nightingale Hospitals and a mass vaccination centre in Taunton
  • 50 helped to test mass vaccination centres in Exeter and Plymouth
