A Devon and Cornwall Police officer has been sacked after failing to record allegations of an assault while on duty two years ago.

PC Christopher Woodman was hauled before a misconduct panel, which concluded on July 14 and dismissed the officer without ntice.

Woodman faced allegations that on September 24 2019 he attended an incident where allegations of assault were made.

He subsequently failed to report that the alleged crime had happened, despite information being given to him.

A three day public hearing found he breached the police standards on Honesty and Integrity, Discreditable Conduct and Duties and Responsibilities.

Head of Professional Standards, Detective Superintendent Paul Kessell said:

“On this occasion the behaviour of the officer fell below the standards expected within policing.

"Through his actions, the officer undermined the public’s trust and confidence in the police force and did not fulfil his duties and responsibilities.

“Such behaviour will not be tolerated within policing and the decision made by the independent chair is that the officer is dismissed without notice.”

Woodman has been barred from working within policing in future.
