In just one weekend, Devon and Cornwall Police have handed out £25,000 in fines to Covid rule-breakers.

That includes to three people who drove from Somerset to Land's End, apparently to 'see the cliffs in wet weather'.

Penzance Police shared the story on social media, reminding people to stay at home and only make essential journeys.

Plymouth B-Section Response Team dealt with 11 COVID logs on Saturday night.

In one case, 16 party-goers were given £800 fines after Plympton Police attended a gathering in Chaddlewood.

Plympton Police posted on Facebook to say that one person at a party they attended told them they thought it was OK because they have "regular COVID checks through their work which have all been negative to date".

Cycling Cop, Sergeant Dan Box shared the post on Twitter, saying he was sad to hear this sort of thing was still going on.

The total amount has been revealed at the same time as the crime statistics for Devon and Cornwall Police.

Overall crime fell by 8% in the last year across the force area.

That means our crime rate is the second lowest rate in the country.
