Derriford Hospital's emergency department's experiencing a surge in demand.

It is seeing around 330 patients a day and is appealing for the public's help to ease the pressure this half-term.

If you do not have a life threatening emergency or major illness you are being urged not to go there.

Calling 111, your GP, or visiting your pharmacist may be more appropriate and help alleviate a surge in demand.

Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Dr Annette Rickard, says to "help us, help you":

Derriford says staff will always "put your safety first and prioritise the most unwell patients."
