Almost a month after a High Court hearing the felled trees could finally being removed from Plymouth's Armada Way.

They were cut down overnight unexpectedly - despite a 16,000 strong petition, in early April by Plymouth City Council as part of wider regeneration plans.

19 trees remained after campaigners secured an injunction at around 1am on the night of the felling.

A spokesperson for Plymouth City Council said: "We are anticipating that work to clear Armada Way of felled trees and stumps will take place on Thursday 27 April, in the evening.

"In compliance with the court order, we commissioned an independent ecologist to review the branches / fallen trees and tree stumps and put together a methodology for their removal.

"A report from the ecologist has now been passed to the claimant in the High Court case, for her expert to review and to comment on.

"We will consider any comments and subject to no issues, work will proceed to clean-up the site on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Straw campaign to keep the trees posted online: "We have received the council’s report on the planned work and will be responding with our comments shortly. The deadline for us to respond is Wednesday morning. We have some concerns over the proposals given evidence of at least one active nest on the site."
