Dartmoor Line ready for hourly services

The rail minister today came to Devon

Just days before it becomes an hourly service, the rail minister today came to see work on the newly re-opened Dartmoor Line.

The line, from Exeter to Okehampton, opened in November but has recently undergone improvements to drainage and the track bed to allow faster line speeds.

Since opening, the number of passengers using the line has been double the initial predictions.

Along the Dartmoor Line, between Fatherford and Coleford, upgrades included laying 11 miles of new track and installing 24,000 concrete sleepers and 29,000 tonnes of ballast in a record-breaking 20-day period.

The new hourly service begins this Sunday.
