It's 'World Car Free Day' and across Devon children will be cycling to call for safer streets - and many buses will be free.

There's a so-called Exeter 'Kidical Mass' which will leave Belmont Park after 11am and head to County Hall to highlight the numbers who would cycle to school - and to get around - if they and their parents thought it was safe

There's also an event starting at Paignton's Velopark, where youngsters will ride into town to show the numbers of who would cycle if they felt able to.

The Devon Bus Partnership, in conjunction with operators Stagecoach, Tally Ho, Dartline, Torbay Buses and Filers Travel are supporting the free bus travel, using funding provided by the Department for Transport.

Councillor Andrea Davis, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: “The Devon Bus Partnership was established to help people across Devon and this offer of free bus travel highlights what can be achieved by working together. It’s an opportunity for everyone to try the free Sunday bus services, whether it’s for a leisurely day out, to go shopping or to visit family and friends.

“Hopefully this event will encourage more people in the county to become regular bus passengers. Combined with the £2 fare for bus journeys on other days or free travel with a concessionary bus pass, bus passengers are enjoying great value for money and can rest assured they’re doing their bit for the environment.”
