Plymouth City Council have announced that they will soon charge people to dispose of certain types of waste at Chelson Meadow.

From 26 January, residents who bring soil, rubble, plasterboard and asbestos to the recycling centre will need to pay.

For soil and rubble it will be ÂŁ2.40 per bag or item, ÂŁ6 per bag or sheet of plasterboard and ÂŁ11 per bag or sheet of bonded asbestos.

The local authority says the money they will save will help them tackle the "unprecedented financial challenges and ensure the continuation of other valued waste services".

Last year they accepted 5,983 tonnes of these types of materials which cost them ÂŁ140,000 to dispose of.

There are no plans to charge for anything else.
