CCTV upgraded at Tinside Lido following spate of vandalism
It has been targeted four times this year, with glass being thrown onto the sundeck and into the pool

Plymouth’s Tinside Lido’s CCTV systems have been upgraded to combat recent anti-social behaviour which has impacted access to the pool for swimmers and sunbathers.
This year, Tinside Lido has been subjected to four acts of vandalism, involving glass being thrown onto the sundeck and into the swimming pool.
The latter of these incidents, resulted in the facility being closed to the public so the pool could undergo drainage, cleaning and refilling which can take up to 48 hours.
To help deter anti-social behaviour, the Council has taken action and made significant improvements to CCTV system with the aim of identifying any future perpetrators with the help of Devon and Cornwall Police.
The upgraded CCTV camera further enhances the security of the waterfront, with new HD camera installations from West Hoe along to the Citadel. The CCTV is monitored 24/7 from our CCTV centre, with our highly trained team ready to respond to any incidents,
The lift at Tinside Lido has also been repaired onsite, this was damaged by bad weather earlier this summer and was awaiting a delayed replacement part from mainland Europe.
Councillor Mark Deacon, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Culture, Leisure & Sport, who was joined onsite by Tinside Contract Manager Julian Egan, said:
"The improvements to CCTV are a significant action to prevent vandalism at Tinside, which has been far too frequent over recent months.
"Tinside staff have been brilliant in clearing up after each incident occurred, but there has been times when then site has had to be closed because of the selfish acts of the few, we understand this is frustrating to our law-abiding residents.
"We will be working closely with our leisure operator Everyone Active and Devon and Cornwall police to reduce the impact of anti-social behaviour at Tinside and this CCTV upgrade will help achieve that."
