Police have confirmed that a body has been found in the search for a man who went missing from Burgh Island last month.

Emergency services, including the Coastguard, were called to Bigbury Bay yesterday (13 April), following reports of a suspicious object in the water.

No formal identification has taken place but the family of Efstathios Anthis - also known as Stan - have been made aware of the discovery.

Mr Anthis was last seen on March 8 jumping out of a ground floor window at the Burgh Island Hotel in Bigbury-on-Sea.

In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson for Kingsbridge Police said:

"RNLI lifeguards attended and with the assistance of Hope Cove Lifeboat a body was recovered from the water.

"No formal identification has taken place but the family of Efstathios Anthis (Stan), who went missing from Burgh Island have been made aware of the discovery."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"Police assisted the coastguard with the recovery of a body, believed to be male, from the water off Burgh Island, Bigbury on Sea, yesterday evening, Tuesday 13 April.

"Formal identification is yet to take place.
