A road closure was in place for much of yesterday (Saturday, April 22) after it's reported a body was found by firefighters tackling a blaze at a shed in Bampton.

The fire, which police have confirmed poses no threat to the wider public, started on Friday evening.

After the body was discovered, police were called to the scene.

It's not yet known who the person was - and we do not yet know their age or sex.

In a statement on their social media page yesterday afternoon (22 April), a local pub told customers to stay away from the scene.

The Exeter Inn on Tiverton Road in Bampton said: "Just to inform our customers, the road from Tiverton to Bampton is closed.

"Cutting off our main car park.

"But we do have our back car park located just off the roundabout toward Bampton.

"Please all be safe in your journey and we hope to see you soon."

Investigations with the emergency services continue.
