Birthday plans as Tamar Bridge turns 60
Events get underway this weekend to mark the 60th anniversary of The Tamar Bridge.

When it opened in 1961 The Tamar Bridge carried 4,000 cars a day, and now as it turns 60 that number has risen to 40,000 and shows no sign of decreasing.
A series of celebration events are planned ahead of Sunday's birthday, including a new anniversary exhibition in the 'Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre' and tours of the under-bridge.
A number of family animation workshops will also be held during half-term week, which starts on Monday.
A spokesperson for Tamar Crossings said: "We will also be unveiling new panels about the bridge which will be erected on the fencing at both ends of the south cantilever.
"These will have links to oral histories and music videos produced by local people.
"As part of the celebrations we will also be temporarily lighting up the two bridge towers, the Tamar Crossings office and the Toll Plaza.
"The temporary lighting scheme, which will remain in place throughout the week, has been carefully designed to minimise light pollution and disturbance to bridge users and neighbours.
"Flicker free, low intensity/energy uplighters will be discretely positioned to softly enhance the tower faces above the road deck and the toll plaza canopy.
"In order to protect marine and estuarial habitats, no high-powered spot lights will be used along the foreshores and all lights will be suitably shrouded to minimise unwanted glare."
