More cases of bird flu in North Devon

A warning has been issued at the Pottington Business Park and surrounding area

Bird flu has been found in North Devon.

The council say that cases have been confirmed in wild birds around Barnstaple's Pottington Business Park and surrounding areas.

The authority has issued advice to avoid to risk of it spreading - urging people to keep to footpaths and keep dogs on leads.

In a statement, North Devon Council said: "Avian Flu - Pottington Business Park and surrounding area.

"We have been advised that confirmed cases of avian flu have been detected in wild birds around Barnstaple's Pottington Business Park and surrounding areas."

The message by the Animal and Plant Agency states:

  • Keep to the footpath
  • Keep dogs on leads
  • Do not feed wild waterfowl
  • Do not pick up or touch dead or sick wild birds
  • Do not touch wild bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings
  • If you keep poultry or other birds, wash your hands and clean and disinfect your footwear before tending to your birds
  • Please report dead wild waterfowl or other dead wild birds to Defra's GB helpline on 03459335577
